Following its commitment to support families in Rio Grande do Sul after the floods that affected several communities, Instituto Justiça (IJ) launched the Home Restructuring (RS) project. This initiative emerged as a second phase of the solidarity movement, aimed at helping people return to their homes and rebuild their routines with dignity and safety.

By joining forces with partners, IJ was able to provide support to 530 families in cities in the Taquari Valley (Muçum, Encantado, Roca Sales, Lajeado, Putinga, Arroio do Meio, Relvado, and Cruzeiro do Sul).

The Taquari Valley region is located in the central part of the state of Rio Grande do Sul and concentrated the areas most affected by the floods of 2024. With the river level rising 24 meters above its normal bed, approximately 1,400 people were directly affected, nearly 60% of the Valley’s population (1).

To support the reconstruction of the communities, the institute raised an amount exceeding BRL 618,000 and acquired 1,135 essential items, such as stoves, refrigerators, wardrobes, and kitchen cabinet kits.

In addition to material damage, many families suffered a significant emotional impact after losing their homes. For this reason, the Home Restructuring initiative sought not only to provide goods, but above all, to bring hope and the conditions for a new beginning.
