União Amazônia Viva
In 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Instituto Justiça (IJ) supported the União Amazônia Viva project, an emergency action focused on the protection of indigenous peoples, riverside dwellers, extractivists, and quilombolas in the Amazon region – groups historically vulnerable, who faced a mortality rate 150% higher than the national average.

These communities, strongly linked to their territories, maintain ways of life sustained by their relationship with the forest and nature. In a scenario of health crisis, their access to health care, information, and supplies has become even more compromised.
The mobilization raised R$ 6 million, allocated for the acquisition of hospital supplies and support for health units operating in the region. Part of the resources was also applied to the purchase of food baskets, hygiene kits, and personal protective equipment (PPE), promoting food security and care for the health of the benefited populations.
The initiative reaffirmed the commitment of the Justice Institute to the appreciation of life, cultural diversity, and equitable access to health and dignity, especially in marginalized territories.
